Welcome to Soap Distillery's
blog! I'm Danielle and I'll be your bartender. Here at Soap Distillery, we
specialize in creating soaps and bath/shower/skincare products inspired by the
mastery of cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits. Finally, you can enjoy your
favorite drinks in soap form! Because really, why wouldn't you? Keep in mind,
these products are "inspired by" these cocktails, which means the
fragrance notes are designed around the key ingredients in the cocktail itself.
This will not leave you smelling like an alcoholic, but more like, juniper
berries, lime, vanilla, orange, vetiver, mint, and so forth. Your handmade
products will leave your skin clean, fresh, and much happier due to the natural
ingredients. So, this all sounds good, but why use our soap in the first place?
The term "soap" is
used very loosely in the skincare industry. More often than not, that term
refers to an block of pressed artificial detergents, similar to the powder you
use in your dishwasher and get your car washed with. The terms "ph
balanced", "naturally derived", "pure" and
"natural ingredients" get thrown around a lot. What they aren't
telling you is that many of these ingredients contain known carcinogens,
alcohol (which is drying to the skin), cheap waxes, inexpensive oils, strange
fillers, etc. When you buy your "high quality natural" something,
this is where your money is going. We have a real problem with that, and you
should too. This is why I decided to begin making my own soap in the first
place.
So, if that's all true, then what is
"real soap"? Real soap is what you get by combining oils with an
alkali salt and water. The alkali causes the oils and water to emulsify,
thicken, and eventually solidify. The solid result is what actual soap is. It's
pure and simple, not pressed and artificial.
Instead of using a bunch of
chemically made detergents to produce our soaps, etc, we use real vegetable
oils, all of which carry their own benefit. We choose the best oils and
ingredients we can for our customers, to insure that our soaps are moisturizing
and nourishing for your skin. Keep in mind, we also use phthalate free
fragrance oils in our soaps, and the soap bars are preservative free. Even us,
with sensitive skin, can use these soaps without any issue. The best thing you
can do for yourself is try them out!
